Enhanced Security Preparations Underway
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the president “looks forward to finishing what he started before a despicable assassination attempt derailed the original event back in April.” She further promised that the evening will be “very entertaining and memorable” for all attendees. Meanwhile, Secret Service officials have cautioned that nationwide threats have reached unprecedented levels, with agents opening approximately 10,000 protective intelligence cases since January — representing a nearly 40% increase compared to the same timeframe last year.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran provided additional details during a Wednesday briefing, explaining that every venue undergoes thorough reevaluation before each presidential visit. “We will always evaluate every site, and right now we have an advance team there, and they will take back, and they will set up a plan to set that site up for success, just like we did at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Hilton,” Curran stated. “That is a success.”

On Friday night, the White House Correspondents’ Association will honor the Secret Service officer who was struck in his protective vest during the April dinner, alongside the entire Washington Hilton staff. Jiang emphasized that Friday’s program remains “very much the same” as April’s, though the guest list will be smaller. She noted that enhanced security measures are in place, including a private security firm that has collaborated closely with Secret Service personnel.
Every dinner guest must now present a unique QR code along with a government-issued photo ID to navigate through ticketing procedures. Attendees will also pass through multiple layers of security before entering the ballroom. The association worked extensively with federal security agencies throughout the planning process. “It was incredibly important to have the safety of our guests to be the top priority,” Jiang explained, highlighting the collaborative effort that went into ensuring a successful rescheduled event.
