Initial Attack in Drive-Thru Lane

Wertynews.com – Law enforcement officials shared video documentation on Friday capturing the beginning of a fatal shooting that unfolded at an Idaho In-N-Out establishment over the weekend. The incident resulted in three fatalities during the Saturday morning attack in Twin Falls.

Chad Williams, aged 24, took his own life following the violent episode, according to police reports. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks noted during a Friday press briefing that authorities have yet to determine what prompted the deadly confrontation.

The released security camera video indicates the violence commenced within the restaurant’s drive-thru area. Williams fired through the payment window from his vehicle, striking Ashley Garibay, a 23-year-old from Stockton, California. She subsequently passed away at a medical facility.

After positioning his car in the drive-thru lane, Williams exited the vehicle and shot Christopher Claunch, a 59-year-old resident of Hagerman, Idaho, inside his car. Claunch died immediately at the location.

Heroic Response and Escalation

Austin James, who previously served as both an Idaho State Police trooper and a Twin Falls police officer, rushed toward the attacker and sustained gunshot wounds. Police reported that James retreated to his vehicle and retrieved his own firearm but held back due to his injuries.

Williams returned to the payment window and continued shooting as restaurant staff attempted to assist Garibay. When his handgun malfunctioned, he retrieved a rifle from his car.

An off-duty state police trooper, whose identity remains unknown, moved past employees toward the payment window and engaged in a gunfight with Williams.

Shooting Spree Continues

After leaving the restaurant, Williams walked toward a nearby street while firing at vehicles stopped at a traffic signal, injuring three additional people.

At a parking lot close by, Williams approached a Tesla charging station and shot at three individuals inside two Tesla vehicles. Among those hit was Dale Schultz, a 66-year-old from Salt Lake City, who died from his wounds.

Outside the Twin Falls Visitor Center, Williams encountered workers who had evacuated from nearby businesses. One worker began conversing with the gunman, allowing others to escape.

“To that young man, you are a hero,” Hicks told reporters on Friday. “Your courage, your composure, your selflessness in that moment likely gave others the time they needed to escape harm. In the middle of fear and chaos, you thought of others, and that kind of bravery deserves to be acknowledged.”

Police did not reveal the identity of this worker.

Face-to-Face Encounter

Braxton Stuebe, employed at a Dick’s Sporting Goods location near the incident, described a close encounter with Williams after fleeing the store.

“I saw the gun and I kind of just froze. I put my hands up and that’s when he pointed the gun directly at me,” Stuebe told CBS affiliate KMVT-TV. “The only thing I was really thinking was, don’t try and make any sudden movements, don’t try and run. Just hopefully talk to him and hopefully he can change his mind.”

“I said, I have a family. I said, you don’t have to do this. I’ll tell you whatever you want. I’ll do anything,” Stuebe recalled. “Then, the gunman ‘just got like emotional, it seemed like. And he said to me, just get away from me, man.’ But a moment later, ‘He turns back around and kind of has a firearm on his hip. As he’s walking backwards, he fires a shot towards me. Thankfully, he had missed me.'”
