Trump Reveals Newly Acquired Air Force One, a $400 Million Gift from Qatar

Trump unveils new Air Force One – At Joint Base Andrews, a military facility near Washington, President Trump showcased the Boeing 747-8 jet that will become the updated Air Force One. The aircraft, valued at $400 million, was gifted by Qatar and has been retrofitted for presidential use over the past year.

Ancient Plane Replaced by Modern Luxury Jet

The president arrived at the hangar aboard the older 747-2 model, which has served as the presidential aircraft since the 1990s. He addressed military personnel before stepping onto the new jet, emphasizing its unmatched design. “This is the world’s most luxurious plane, and it’s unlike anything we’ve had before,” Trump stated.

“Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE from a country that wants to reward us for a job well done,” Trump wrote on Truth Social last year.

The hangar where the unveiling took place was specifically built to accommodate the larger 747-8, which surpasses the previous model in size. The Air Force plans to use the plane for a grand flyover in Washington on July 4, marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Features and Modifications

The Air Force described the aircraft as “safe, secure, and equipped with the most advanced technologies necessary to meet the requirements of the presidential mission.” Despite its opulence, the interior layout saw minimal changes, preserving leather seating and wood paneling. A 3D interior mock-up was also funded to aid in training.

The plane’s new livery—red, white, and blue—was applied after final government adjustments. The administration leased a 747-8 last year to train pilots and maintenance teams, including a model previously operated by Lufthansa. The older 747-2 will remain in service for government officials until a new fleet arrives in 2028.

Defense of the Gift

Trump has dismissed concerns about the gift’s potential for conflict of interest or security vulnerabilities. “Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country,” he asserted in a social media post. The retrofitting process, which cost “probably less than $400 million” according to the Air Force secretary, was completed ahead of the plane’s official debut.
