At least 27 killed in Bangkok beer pub fire, authorities say

Video clips shared by responders online captured the chaos as the fire raged and dense smoke poured from the front entrance of the Na Ladprao pub, situated in the northern region of the Thai capital. The footage shows individuals scrambling to escape as the smoke quickly filled the air.
Prime Minister Details Fire’s Origins
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, present at the scene, confirmed 27 fatalities and noted that several injured were transported to hospitals. He emphasized that the fire’s cause remains under scrutiny.
Charnvirakul shared that a musician performing at the pub had observed smoke emerging from a circuit breaker near the stage before the lights went out. An explosion was then heard, followed by a swift spread of thick smoke throughout the venue.
Authorities revealed that many of the victims were located in the restrooms at the back of the pub. Firefighters took roughly half an hour to subdue the fire, leaving behind charred furniture and a damaged interior.
Previous Tragedies Highlight Pattern
This incident follows similar tragedies in Thailand’s history. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in the eastern part of the country claimed 14 lives. Over a decade earlier, a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok resulted in 66 deaths and more than 200 injuries.
The 2009 blaze was reportedly triggered by an indoor fireworks display, underscoring recurring safety concerns in such venues. Officials are now examining whether the recent fire shares similar causes or new factors contributing to the disaster.
